Awards

CARL recognizes through its two regular awards individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the development and wellbeing of Canadian research libraries in the service of research and higher education.

CARL Award for Distinguished Service to Research Librarianship

The CARL Award for Distinguished Service to Research Librarianship is awarded annually to an individual at a CARL member institution who has made a substantial local, national or international contribution to research librarianship. The person may have planned and implemented an exemplary library program, actively promoted research libraries and/or librarianship or otherwise served the profession with marked distinction.

Award Recipients

CARL is grateful to ProQuest LLC for its generous support of this award.

This award is normally conferred at the CARL Spring Meeting (usually in May).  Nominations are welcome from the research library community.  A nomination letter should be directed to the CARL Executive Director by February 15; additional information may be requested.  Nominators will be informed of the outcome of the nomination by March 31.

CARL Award of Merit

The CARL Award of Merit may be made from time to time to an individual as recognition for an outstanding contribution to research librarianship, where not otherwise recognized.  Award recipients will normally be Canadians, but a non-Canadian may be recognized for extraordinary contributions in the Canadian research library context.

Award Recipients

Nominations are not actively sought since the award is conferred only occasionally as the Board of Directors deem appropriate.  Suggestions, however, may be directed to the CARL Executive Director at any time.
