Description

The Digital Literacy Framework for CARL Libraries (2024), compiled by the ATLC Digital Literacy Task Group, brings into focus the library’s teaching and learning responsibilities in a digitally complex world. In this session, led by Amber Lannon (Carleton University) and Lesley Balcom (University of New Brunswick), we invite a discussion of the following questions:

- What are the most pressing issues around digital literacy that libraries must address?
- How can the Framework help libraries navigate discussions with administration? With staff?
- What issues are particular to the Canadian context? How do we articulate and respond to the Canadian context, including Indigenous knowledge and information sovereignty?

Description

Research assessment reform is gaining momentum in Canada, with several universities signing on to the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in recent years, and, more recently, the tri-agencies and CFI. With the shift to Diamond Open Access, libraries face additional impetus to champion research assessment reform. As institutions grapple with DORA implementation in an academic culture where metrics are highly-prized, libraries must navigate how they support their researchers, champion their institutions, and uphold the values of the profession.

We invite panelists to consider the following:

- From your perspective, what needs to change with research assessment and what actions are underway?
- How can academic libraries best support research assessment reform and DORA implementation within their own institutions?
- How can academic libraries engage with research assessment reform as part of their EDIA commitments?

Session facilitated by Michael Vandenberg (Dalhousie), Chair, ARC

This session will provide a brief history and a fulsome update on the progress being made on advancing a Canadian national PID strategy through a joint presentation by John Aspler, Manager, Canadian Persistent Identifier Community at CRKN and Susan Haigh, Chair of CPIDAC.
An institutional, non-library perspective will follow from Marc-Etienne Rousseau, Director, Research Software at McGill University.
There will be time for questions, and discussion will center on how to foster more universal awareness of PIDs on Canadian campuses, and how CARL directors may best encourage and support individual and institutional uptake of both the standards and of their integration into appropriate local systems.
