December 5 – The International Alliance of Research Library Associations (IARLA)—an alliance formed by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL/ABRC), Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL), LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries), and Research Libraries UK (RLUK)—has developed principles on a safe and open internet.
While legislation and policy varies in IARLA member countries, these principles are designed to guide each member’s advocacy efforts on net neutrality, protecting user data privacy, and preserving online speech rights.
