Call for Expressions of Interest: Steering Committee for a New Community of Practice in Teaching & Learning
February 18, 2026 – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) welcomes expressions of interest from 6-8 teaching and learning librarians interested in shaping and guiding a new Teaching and Learning Community of Practice (CoP).
This new community of practice will bring together library professionals from across Canada to strengthen instructional practice, share expertise, and support one another in the evolving higher education landscape and information ecosystem. The community of practice will facilitate resource sharing and develop strategies for enhancing students’ information, digital, and AI literacies; for evaluating and improving teaching impact; and for supporting ongoing pedagogical growth for library professionals as essential educators who contribute directly to student success.
To launch it effectively, CARL is convening a small Steering Committee that will play a key role in:
- Defining the CoP’s goals, priorities, and areas of focus;
- Planning gatherings, discussions, and collaborative activities;
- Helping build an inclusive, supportive environment for participants;
- Identifying opportunities for shared resource development and knowledge exchange;
- Ensuring the CoP reflects the needs and interests of teaching and learning librarians across academic contexts.
To apply, please send a brief statement outlining your interest in serving on this steering committee and your experience in the area of teaching and learning in libraries to Taleen Aktorosian, CARL Communications and Project Officer, by March 6, 2026.
Steering committee members typically serve a two-year term and should be able to commit 3-5 hours per month to advance the work of the community of practice. Members will be selected with the goal of ensuring diversity of members across institutional size, language of instruction, and location; in knowledge, experience and/or responsibilities; and career stage. Priority will be given to individuals from CARL member libraries, however we will also accept a few individuals from non-CARL member libraries.
