Since 2024, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Community of Practice (EDI CoP) engages library workers based in CARL and non-CARL research libraries, who have a strong interest or functional responsibilities in EDI, and provides a forum to discuss issues, initiatives, challenges and opportunities for collaboration. The CoP is organized and managed by a Steering Committee who meets on a monthly basis to organize quarterly community calls, roundtables, workshops, and/or other forms of community engagement. They also provide access to resources for the community as related to their activities.
Members of the EDI Community of Practice are expected to actively engage in discussions and contribute to the shared learning of the group. This includes attending meetings prepared to discuss the topics at hand and participating in ongoing conversations. To foster a space for open and honest dialogue, members are also expected to uphold confidentiality—ensuring that discussions remain within the CoP and are not shared externally. Through this commitment, the CoP aims to create a supportive environment where members can collaboratively address common challenges and explore meaningful strategies to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in research libraries.
Join the Community!
The CoP aims to bring together library professionals from both CARL and non-CARL research libraries who hold, formally or informally, significant responsibilities related to EDI in their current or past roles. It serves as a collaborative forum to explore issues, share initiatives, address challenges, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
If you are currently employed at a research library and wish to join this CoP, please contact one of the co-chairs Monique Flaccavanto at or Naz Torabi . Please provide some information about your past experiences related to EDI and the reason(s) you’re interested in joining the group.
