Impact Committee
The Impact Committee directs the ongoing development and delivery of CARL’s Statistics Program, and develops new evaluation methodologies and measures to ensure that CARL members gather and deploy solid evidence to support decision-making.
Working Groups
Communities of Practice
CARL supports assessment within and across Canadian research libraries that demonstrates the valuable contributions of these libraries toward higher education and the research enterprise, and that facilitates the continuing evolution of library services.
Strategic goals include:
- Developing new indicators and approaches, in collaboration with other bodies engaged in assessment, to demonstrate library value and impact on research, teaching and learning.
- Supporting and facilitating an ongoing program of library assessment on a pan-Canadian basis, and encouraging the use of such evidence to strengthen the profile and services of libraries.
CARL Statistics Program
Since 1976, CARL has managed an annual library statistics program that collects, stores, and analyses data related to staffing, expenditures, collections, and the use of facilities in its member libraries.
Data Visualization Toolkit
The purpose of CARL’s Data Visualization Toolkit, put together by the Assessment Committee Continuing Education Working Group, is to provide guidance for academic libraries seeking to incorporate dashboards and other data visualization tools into their assessment practice.
Library Impact Framework
Developed by CARL’s Library Impact Framework Working Group (now inactive), CARL’s Library Impact Framework explores how libraries contribute to teaching, learning, and research through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The framework uses a logic model approach to map library inputs, outputs, and outcomes.
