CARL Scholarship for OpenCon 2017

OpenCon 2017 logo

Since 2014, SPARC’s OpenCon conferences have been providing a unique venue for the next generation of researchers to meet and discuss opportunities around open access, open data, and open educational resources (OER).

Continuing our longstanding support for open access to scholarly work, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) will sponsor one travel scholarship to support a graduate student or early career researcher from a CARL institution to attend the OpenCon 2017 event, November 11-13 in Berlin, Germany. In return, the successful individual will be asked to produce a very short (800-1,000 word) report on what they learned, with some focus placed on how we can better support open access here in Canada. Some of this content may be used by CARL on our web site and/or on materials produced in association with Open Access Week.

The scholarship covers registration costs, air travel and shared accommodation. Applications are being accepted until September 1 (please note that all applications received by August 1 will also be considered for general OpenCon scholarships).
