CARL welcomes Geoff Harder as Project Director, National Shared Repository Infrastructure

CARL is very pleased to announce that Geoff Harder joins our team today as Project Director, National Shared Repository Infrastructure.

Bringing his extensive experience, knowledge, contacts, and enthusiasm to the role, Geoff will lead business case and project development for a shared national repository service. Initial phases of this work will include scoping and requirements gathering; identifying infrastructure and service options; recommending priorities for optimal return on investment; and coordinating with existing efforts including CARL’s Open Repositories Working Group, prospective consortial partners such as Scholars Portal, SaaS-based solution providers, and other relevant entities.

Geoff Harder is Associate University Librarian at the University of Alberta, where he supports strategic planning and team-based delivery of a broad range of programs, including research data management, digital repositories, OA journal and OER publishing, digitization, special collections and archives, and long-term preservation. Geoff is a board member of CLOCKSS and also the Internet Archive Canada, and has been actively involved in numerous governance and coordinating efforts for entities such as Public Knowledge Project (PKP), ORCID-CA, National Heritage Digitization Strategy (NHDS), and the Portage network (now part of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada).

When not working, you will find Geoff enjoying time with his family, adding mileage to running shoes or one of his bikes, or cheering on his local hockey team with undying hope that they will once more hoist the cup.

Geoff will be on leave from the University of Alberta for the duration of his year’s secondment with CARL.
