New CARL VPO for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

April 13, 2023. – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) is pleased to welcome Aditi Gupta as Visiting Program Officer (VPO) for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Aditi is the Engineering & Science Librarian at the University of Victoria Libraries. She received her Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of British Columbia in 2004 and has worked in libraries for over 16 years. Aditi’s research interests include diversity and inclusion in libraries, inclusive teaching practices, information literacy instruction, and information-seeking behaviours of visible minorities, international students and multicultural populations. Aditi is the past recipient of the ALA Diversity Grant (2015-2016), the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute’s Collaborative Research Grant (2018-2020), NSERC Science Communication Skills Grant (2021-2022) and the Learning & Teaching Support Innovation’s Anti-Racism Grants (2021-2023).

Aditi will work in collaboration with the chair and members of CARL’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group (EDIWG) and with CARL’s full-time Senior Program Officer supporting the Strengthening Capacity Committee’s initiatives, to advance CARL’s growing slate of EDI initiatives.

CARL would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing CARL VPO-EDI, Victoria Ho from the University of Manitoba, for her leadership and contributions in this area over the last year.

New CARL VPO for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

February 2, 2022. – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) is pleased to welcome Victoria Ho as Visiting Program Officer (VPO) for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Victoria Ho is a Social Sciences Liaison Librarian at the University of Manitoba with research interest in equity, diversity, and inclusion within libraries. She is currently working on a CARL-funded research project with two Canadian Librarians called “Applying a critical theory and anti-oppression framework to EDI work in libraries: a toolkit”. The project examines how to apply an anti-oppression and critical librarianship approach to EDI. She is a member of ViMLoC and has participated in the ViMLoC Mentorship Program for the past two years (2020 and 2021). She sees the value in providing guidance and support to racialized students pursuing a career in librarianship.

Bringing a wealth of experience, knowledge, and capacity to CARL, Victoria will work in collaboration with the chair and members of CARL’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group (EDIWG) and with CARL’s full-time Senior Program Officer supporting the Strengthening Capacity Committee’s initiatives, to advance CARL’s growing slate of EDI initiatives.
