January 7, 2025 – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries is pleased to welcome the Library of Parliament as its newest member, which joins 29 university libraries and 2 federal institutions.
As the voice of Canada’s research libraries, CARL enhances its members’ capacity to advance research and higher education; promotes effective and sustainable knowledge creation, dissemination, and preservation; and advocates for public policy that enables broad access to scholarly information.
The Library of Parliament, a library with deep research expertise and a rich collection, contributes to Canadian parliamentary democracy by creating, managing and delivering authoritative, reliable and relevant information and knowledge for and about Parliament.
As with Library and Archives Canada and the National Research Council Canada’s Federal Science Libraries Network, the Library of Parliament will collaborate in coordinated efforts with the academic library community but will not engage in CARL’s federal advocacy activities.
Christine Ivory was appointed the new Parliamentary Librarian effective October 21, 2024, and will be the primary representative of the Library of Parliament within CARL.
The Library of Parliament brings a wealth of research expertise, talent and resources that will benefit the work of CARL and its members, and we look forward to their engagement in CARL’s wide-ranging programs and activities.
