Scholaris Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

May 21, 2025 – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) is pleased to share a milestone update from the Scholaris shared repository service, marking the one-year anniversary of both the Scholaris Early Adopter Program and the launch of the Scholaris Network of Expert Groups.

We invite you to read the full anniversary post on the Scholaris website, which includes a downloadable infographic, reflections on the past year, and a look ahead at what’s to come for the service.

Developed collaboratively by CARL, the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), and the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL), and delivered by Scholars Portal, Scholaris is a national opt-in shared repository service designed to support Canadian academic institutions through robust technical infrastructure and a community-driven model.

Over the past year, the Scholaris team has worked closely with Early Adopter institutions to support repository migrations, service enhancements, and community-building. At the halfway point of the program, more than 20 institutions are participating in phased migrations—with over half now live on their Scholaris instances.

In parallel, the Scholaris Expert Groups, coordinated by CARL, have played a key role in shaping service policies, tools, and guidance to support both Early Adopters and the broader repository community. The Metadata and Discovery, Electronic Theses and Dissertations, and Digital Preservation Expert Groups have produced valuable outputs, several of which are now available in TSpace (more coming soon).
