September 17, 2025 – The Canadian Association of Research Libraries’ (CARL) Scholaris Digital Preservation Expert Group (S-DPEG) is pleased to share their first draft guidance about digital preservation for the Scholaris service. This draft includes four explainers and is informed by feedback shared through the Digital Preservation Needs Assessment Survey.
While these explainers are developed for the Scholaris service, we welcome feedback from all members of the repository community. Your input will help ensure documentation addresses the needs of both Scholaris subscribers and the broader community.
The four explainers address the following:
- What is digital preservation and why is it important?
- Access vs. preservation
- Scholaris and digital preservation
- How to talk about digital preservation
Please add your feedback to the current draft by commenting directly on the document by October 8, 2025.
Please note that additional guidance is forthcoming. We will share these as they become available, and we encourage your continued engagement throughout this process. The final versions of the explainers and further guidance will be released in English and French and made available through TSpace.
If you have any questions or need further context, feel free to reach out to Gabriela Mircea at or the chair of the expert group, Julie Shi, at .
